The Shed Distillery In Deepest Rural Ireland
The Shed distillery is much more than it sounds, located in the North West of Ireland, in county Leitrim, on the edge of Lough Allen at the foot of Sliabh An Iarainn mountains. This spectacular backdrop of the wild and rugged west was deemed the perfect location by owners PJ and Denise Rigney.
In 2014 The Shed Distillery opened, it was the first distillery to open in Connacht in over a hundred and one years. Opening in a little unknown village of Drumshanbo county Leitrim, with a mere eight hundred residents.
PJ and the Drinks Industry
PJ and his team make some of the most coveted gins and vodkas available; their Gunpowder gin has proved popular far and wide. They are working hard to keep these stocks available for their fans. As for whiskey they desired to make the mellowest hand made whiskey that they can. With previous drinks that PJ has worked on; his aim was always to capture the flavours of time. Today with their new whiskey, the ‘Winter Solstice’ he believes they will have a whiskey with a timeless flavour.
The team at The Shed Distillery believe the whiskey is almost there but believe that once it turns five it will appeal to many, capturing the west in this golden liquid. If there was any doubt about this elixir then know that Prince Albert of Monaco and Count Carl Graf Von Hardenberg of the German drinks dynasty have snapped up many of the first filled casks from this particular distillery, showing that there something special and delicious about this particular whiskey; but why not check it out on one of our Irish Whiskey tours.
