Echlinville Distillery on the Ards peninsula in county Down
Echlinville is the first licensed whiskey distillery in Northern Ireland in over 125 years. This distillery is nestled beside the sea on the Ards peninsula, giving them a very unique terrior, and micro-climate. Founded by locals who have been farming the land for centuries. They have the unique perspective for the design and future styles for their whiskey. Giving Echlinville the ability to produce a whiskey with a truly distinctive character and flavour.
The Echlinville distillery is different to many, in that they have their very own malting floors; something many Scottish distilleries have given up on for financial purposes, time and labour constraints. With the barley growing around the distillery, their very own malting floors, to mashing and fermenting the grains, distilling and maturing the spirit, to hand bottling and labelling; everything is done right on the farm. Echlinville can truly say they produce a field to glass whiskey.
Their first whiskey flowed off the stills on August 5th 2013, establishing itself as one of Ireland’s must watch distilleries. Echlinville have been welcomed with open arms, not only are they serious about making great whiskey but have quite an innovative team leading the charge on some truly beautiful whiskey’s. There are whispers of peated whiskey’s that may be on their way to your glass. Echlinville’s pot still and single malt whiskey’s have recently turned five and have been well received by the lucky few who have tried them. Distillery owner Shane Braniff, believes these whiskey’s have more to give so he is willing to give them more time to rest before launching them on the world market.
A visit is a must, see this distillery and farm before they rocket off and become a whiskey destination for whiskey lovers the world over. Contact us here at Irish Whiskey Tours and allow us to share this beautiful distillery with you.
